Rijeka Crnojevica
At only 30 km from Podgorica and 24 km from Virpazar is an oasis for tourists, Rijeka Crnojevica.
Ivan Crnojević who ruled Montenegro in the seventies of the 15th century, moved his royal capital from Žabljak Crnojevića to the area of Rijeka Crnojevića (Crnojevića River) and established a fortified town. The gentle valley of the Rijeka was more intensively populated in the mid of 18th century. The rulers from the Petrović dynasty built there their holiday houses in the 19th century, when this town gained the reputation of being an important trade and crafts centre. In the late 19th and early 20th century, Rijeka Crnojevića had the first weapon factory, ship dock, water supply, artificial pearls factory, hotels, cafes and several trade and crafts shops.
Rijeka Crnojevića today represents one of the most important tourist sites in National park Lake Skadar. Restaurants with traditional cuisine will make your stay pleasant and the view on the old bridge contributes to the return period in Old Montenegro. Not far from there is the famous Obodska cave which is a challenge to all cavers who come to Montenegro. Above the Rijeka rises a hill Obod, on which lies the Riječki Grad . At its center, at the same time was built the monastery of St. Nicholas, which later located the center of the Zeta Metropolitanate, after its relocation from Vranjina and Kom.
Rijeka Crnojevića attracts many visitors because of its magical cards - Paul's side ( Pavlova strana ). This is one of the most recognizable landscapes in National park Lake Skadar and in Montenegro in general.
